About

Panza del Artista is a compound of two homes, situated in the heart Santiago, one of the original neighborhoods of central Cusco. A five minute walk to the Central Market and San Pedro Train Station to Machu Picchu, Panza is located conveniently out of the typical tourist section of the main square – though truly just ten minutes walk into the main plaza. Panza is concealed from the chaos of the main square and affords an ideal retreat from the crowds and commotion below.

Protected on a private drive with a nunnery and grade school, it is full of life and local energy. The neighborhood of Santiago, itself, is a wonderful place to explore the real Cusco: shops, markets, street-life galore!  Perched on a ridge just above the market, most of our rooms and both our gardens have great light and views to the surrounding mountain peaks. We also have a rooftop terrace with even more spectacular views – just ask!

A quiet coca tea or local organic café in the sun-drenched garden is the ideal morning moment to plan the day’s activities. We have a fountain with fruit trees and a rose garden, truly your playground for a good rest after an adventurous day. While an evening cerveza at one of our two fire pits is a relaxing privilege while absorbing the day’s excursions.

Amenities:

B&B amenities include a large garden with protected covering open to the warmth of the day or the bright evening stars; a large balcony on the second floor offers outstanding views over the town and the Cusco valley below.  Meals, snacks, beer & wine are available throughout the day and evening just in the kitchen next door. Mama Maria can help prepare anything that strikes your fancy. Also, all teas, coffee, breads and fruit are always available, free. Additional laundry service is done in-house. We also store your bags free of charge while during your excursions to Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley or Lake Titicaca.

We offer musical Peña with traditional songs from the area by Panza host Carlos Romero de la Cuba, with beer and roast lamb, Sacred Valley trout or stuffed Guinea Pig – the local delicacy! When Adam is around, he’ll gladly take you out in his Land Cruiser to one of his favorite hidden spots; or when Xiomara is around, she can offer local cuisine cooking classes. See the Tourist Info section for more detailed information on activities and programs in the Cusco area.

Our Rooms:

Each of our five rooms has its own private bathroom and closet. Warm, hand-made blankets and local rugs keep things cozy. All rooms have their own entrance, continuous hot water, new doors and windows to keep the evening air out.  We also have a few electric heaters you may rent for 10 soles per night, just in case. Adobe construction and old-wood floors keep things warmer than typical cement or stone construction. The large rooms have plenty of natural light and fresh mountain air.  We also have a larger suite ideal for a small group or family of 4-5 people.  No TV's nor alarm clocks here!

Rates:

If you're interested in renting one of our rooms or staying at the compound for a longer period, please contact Adam L. Weintraub and he'll make sure everything is easy and your opportunities plenty. His wife, Xiomara Romero, is the daughter of the Romero parents who make things happen in Cuzco.

Rates as follows:

Double: $45/night with breakfast

Triple: $60/night with breakfast

Suite: sleeping up to five with three rooms and one bathroom, $75/night with breakfast.

Longer stays are always discounted. Weekly and monthly rates are great options, depending on availability. Groups are welcome and also discounted from our standard rates. This is a great place to create community and nurture local culture.
